I have been using Linux distribution called Aurora Linux 1 well over year as my main distro. I did pretty much cold turkey switch from Windows 10, as the Window s boot drive’s bootloader just failed for some reason.
I also have my own server running, and I like to use SMB as I can’t then use Unraid’s Recycle Bin plugin functionalities in case of accidentally deleted files.
Anyway here are two methods to mount SMB shares on immutable distro’s 2

Buy your fi domain directly from Traficom

In recent months, Traficom caused a small “uproar” when the Ministry of Transport and Communications proposed that the price of fi domains would increase from €9 to €12, and that domain name registrars would be charged an annual fee of €400 1.
The statements given by individuals and companies were generally against it, but some statements were in favour of the proposals. Of these, what caught my eye the most was that the statements in favour were statements from larger web hosting and domain brokerage companies. From the purpose of these statements, it can be assumed that they want to smoke smaller and private actors out of the playing field, that “professional” actors can guarantee a more reliable and secure service. At least that’s what they say. The background in reality is only for narrowing the field of competition, and if, for example, private customers registry status becomes too difficult, then these customers will naturally switch to be customers of these larger providers. As, for example, it is clear from this Shellit.org statement, which is a bit shocking how directly they want to limit competition, and drive more money into their own pockets.

Creative Stage v1 audio lag firmware fix

Edit: The firmware from Creative support page didnt actually fix the whole problem. See update below.
For a long time I have thought that the initial audio delay when playing video or audio had something do with my OS - Aurora Linux. Turns out it was problem with Cretive Stage v1 soundbar I have. This happens when there has been no audio playing for a while, notably when there is no silent “hiss” coming from the speaker.

Reusing WD MyBook Enclosure (ASMedia chipset)

I came across to this Youtube video by Mr Steve. Which showcased how to make existing WD MyBook enclosure to work with any SATA hard drive. I happened to have three existing ones.
The video states that this trick is going to work with ASMedia ASM1151W chip. Now I had one enclosure with this, but the other two used JMicron JMS579 chip.

One of the most popular ways to get cheap HDD space is to buy external hard drives and “shuck” the drive out of them.
The point is to do this shucking cleanly, so that if you have send it for warranty recall you can put it back in the enclosure.
Before doing the shuck be sure to run somekind of a stress test for few days so you know that it doesn’t fail immediately.
I used the preclear plugin in Unraid for this.

Setting up Uptime Kuma on Kapsi.fi
